Procrastination at its finest...

So...I'm thinking its time to get back to this whole blogging thing....

Of course, I have one more final to go.

(You know you don't want to study, when.... you rediscover an old blog that you've posted in once.)

But, seriously...let's see how this goes.  I guess I'll just start tomorrow....after my exam :)

Now onto Pharm.  My favorite topic in the entire world...

"So You're Saying There's a Chance"

dumb-and-dumber1.jpg Queue Dumb and Dumber.

Yes, my friends, there is a chance that I will start a blog.  I cannot believe it has happened, but today is the day...

After reading the blogs of some my friends, I have realized what a great tool it is for keeping up with their lives.

So....where to start?  First, I had the daunting task of picking out a theme for my blog.  There were so many choices to choose from.  How am I supposed to pick out a picture for my background that so accurately depicts my personality?  Answer:  I don't.  I settled on the green background (for now).  Hopefully, it will make all my pictures pop that I hope to put up here one day. :/  (I might be making up this explanation at this point).

For now, a story from the OR today (not for the weak at heart or stomach).  (In other words, you may want to stop reading any of the italicized part below)

White_maggot.JPG.jpgI started the day off like any normal day in the operating room.  I put on my chapeau and my mask and headed into the room.  The case assigned to that room this morning was an amputation.... (I have not seen this type of surgery yet...so I was kind of excited).

The woman's leg had already been amputated (she is diabetic) but ended up becoming horribly infected, so they needed to go in and cut off the infected part of the intact leg.

The surgeons unwrapped the end of her already amputated leg to reveal the stub.  At first I thought pus was running down her leg, but on closer examination....it was a MAGGOT!  A maggot had been feasting on this poor woman's infected flesh.  Still don't know how I feel about this yet.  Although, I think I watched a TLC special once about using maggot therapy in the States to eat terribly infected wounds.
Anyways, I really needed to get this story out there...I haven't been able to stop thinking about it all day. Thanks for hanging in there...

Anyways,  I promise not all of my blog-posts will contain stories like this.  But!  Soon, I will be headed off to PA school, so there are no guarantees.  :)

Peace & Maggots
